In lieu of a chronological festival rundown — which I’ve given many people verbally and over DM this past week, whether they’ve asked for it or not — here is a selection of hits or misses from Horst Arts & Music 2023 in the tradition of such previous top posts as Dimensions 2022: Hits And Misses.
HIT: My overall festival experience
Before mentioning any of the (few, minor) misses I can think of for this broadly outstanding festival, and before going into detail on some of the many many hits, I would like to lead with the fact that overall I couldn’t have asked for a better festival experience. With my artist wristband I had privileged access to pretty much everywhere and everything. This being a generally Belgian scene affair with some added extended family in the shape of my booker, his colleagues, several other DJs I knew or wanted to get to know, and indeed some of my actual real family attending on the Sunday, I never lacked for company. On the day I played (Sunday) I was given free booze and food. And musically there were a ton of my favourite DJs playing. I had a wholly privileged experience, and loved almost all of it.
So let it be known that any complaints that may arise below (lol who am I kidding, I love to complain) are drops in the ocean of positive things that I could say about this spectacular festival. With that said…
